What is Azure Stack HCI?
Azure Stack HCI Microsoft brings together both on premise and cloud environments by extending Azure services to on premise hardware – creating a powerful and flexible hybrid virtualisation solution.
Azure Stack HCI can be downloaded and installed on validated hardware, which can be new or existing from a variety of Microsoft’s OEM partners. Once installed Virtual machines can be deployed and managed, this then allows for features such as Azure Backup, Azure Monitor and Azure Defender for Cloud to be stretched back to the on-premises environment.
- Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
Extend existing AVD host pools to the on-premise environment by adding local session hosts to host pools managed in the Azure Virtual Desktop portal within Microsoft Azure. This allows you to minimise infrastructure costs as Microsoft manages the authentication and broker layer and maximise security using Azure Active Directory, Conditional Access, and Azure Defender for Cloud.
- Backup and DR for on premises workloads
An Azure Stack HCI stretched cluster provides automatic failover of virtualized workloads to a secondary site following a primary site failure. Synchronous replication ensures crash consistency of VM disks. Virtual Machines can also be backed up and replicated to different Azure regions using Azure Site recovery and Azure Backup.
- Azure Services on premise
Azure Arc allows you to run Azure services anywhere. This allows you to build consistent hybrid and multicloud application architectures by using Azure services that can run in Azure, on-premises, at the edge, or at other cloud provider.
