“Frontline are local to us and we were impressed by their professionalism - it was clear they were well resourced and had a lot of experience.” Peter Linton, Financial Controller, Metalube Ltd

Metalube is a manufacturer of specialist lubricants to the non-ferrous wire, cable and tube industries. Based in Manchester and employing around 20 people, Metalube generates 98% of sales through exporting to over 80 countries worldwide. They have subsidiary organisations across China, India and Brazil.

IT keeping pace with business changes

Metalube was originally using Sage Accounts 50 for their financials, a Microsoft Access database for sales and purchasing in addition to an array of Word documents to record various pieces of information.

Metalube decided to investigate SAP Business One because it offered a single database to increase visibility of information across the company and could deliver a closer integration with overseas subsidiaries.

In addition, Peter Linton, Financial Controller at Metalube, stated “We wanted to have a more comprehensive understanding of what margins we were making on sales. SAP Business One would allow us to move onto a perpetual inventory system rather than month end stock counts – allowing us to track costs of batches produced and more accurately track the margin on individual sales.”

Delivering success and simplicity to complex operations

Metalube selected Frontline to deliver their SAP Business One implementation and integration into their existing business processes and IT environment.

The implementation went ahead without issue, due to Frontline’s Connected Delivery service methodology that ensures we always follow a tried and tested process when migrating and implementing new services.

Peter Linton at Metalube commented on the project delivery, stating, “We had some fairly complex document requirements due to the fact we export chemicals to so many different countries. By utilising the Usability Pack, we were able to integrate some additional fields into our documents and the training on Crystal Reports allowed us to be able to tailor the document layouts ourselves, allowing us to be flexible and responsive when changes were required”.

By looking at all stages of the project, from solution selection through to training once the solution was in place, Frontline helps our customers to achieve a Return on Integration.

Real-time information visibility and better business outcomes

The new SAP Business One solution enabled Metalube to achieve a more sophisticated costing model which helped to improve the decision making process around what to produce and how to price it. Planning processes were also improved, resulting in more accurate predictions of future stock levels, a reduction in over purchasing and the avoidance of delays due to stock outages. The main difference to Metalube’s business as a whole was the ability to deliver company wide access to good quality, real time business information.

Looking to the future, Metalube plan to roll out the solution to their overseas subsidiaries and also incorporate SAP Business One mobile solutions.
